Flight compensation rules hub

Four sets of rules cover most disrupted flights to, from or within Europe and North America. Each page below walks you through one of them with yes/no steps. The checker applies all four at once.

EU261

Flights from the EU, EEA or Switzerland, or into them on an EU airline. €250 to €600.

UK261

Flights from the UK, or into the UK on a UK or EU airline. £220 to £520.

Canada APPR

Flights to, from or within Canada. CAD 125 to CAD 1,000, or up to CAD 2,400 if bumped.

United States

Refunds for cancellations and big changes, and cash for involuntary bumping. No cash for delays.

When two sets of rules apply, expect to be compensated once for the same disruption. Canada's APPR says so expressly. For flights covered by both EU261 and UK261 we found no official guidance on double claims, so claim under one of them: usually the one that pays more or is easier to enforce.

What changes in October 2027

Regulation (EU) 2026/2202 was published on 2 October 2026 and applies from 23 October 2027. It keeps the 3-hour delay threshold and the €250 / €400 / €600 amounts. It changes some details: the delay must be more than 3 hours, compensation requests must reach the airline within 9 months, the rerouting exceptions after a cancellation get stricter, and the 50% reductions change. UK261 is a separate UK law and is not changed by it. The checker applies the new rules automatically to flights from 23 October 2027.
